Congratulations on your upcoming graduation! Join in the festivities and celebrate your accomplishments.

Join us for the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences Commencement which will take place on Wednesday, December 19 at 3:30 p.m. in the Xfinity Center. Graduates must report to the Xfinity Center’s Small Gym (Pavilion) by 2:30 p.m. in regalia.

 

Important information about the College Commencement Ceremony:

  • Commencement ceremonies for the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences are open participation events. Tickets are NOT required.

 

  • Regalia is required.  
    • Active duty military can wear their dress uniforms instead of regalia.  
    • Honor cords and medals are placed on top of the stole.  
    • The hood should be put on last (on top of the stole with honor cords). The button loop on your hood should be facing down.
    • You may purchase all your commencement items at the University Book Center’s Grad Fair on October 10, 2018 from 10am to 6pm. Regalia may also be purchased after this date.

 

  • Parking
    • Parking is open and free on commencement days.  Please do not feed meters or park in fire lanes.  Please do not park in disabled spaces unless you have a handicapped placard or license plates.
    • Shuttle-UM will be available on campus during ceremony for easy transportation.  Look for the specially marked buses.

 

  • Accommodations

  • Graduates’ names will be read and graduates walk across the stage at the college ceremony.
  • Pictures will be taken before and during the ceremony.  While there is no obligation to purchase the prints, the graduate will receive color proofs by mail approximately two weeks after commencement. In order to receive the proofs, please make sure that you complete the company's address card, which will be distributed in the line-up area prior to the procession. Additional Information 

  • The ceremony will last approximately 90 minutes to 2 hours.
  • Graduates:
    • You will be standing a long time. You will also be walking across a stage with lots of people watching you. Wear comfortable shoes.
    • Please don’t bring items like a book bag or purse with you. You won’t have any place to store them and regalia does not come with pockets.
    • You will not receive your diploma at Commencement. Diplomas are mailed to students several weeks after commencement once all final grades have been reviewed and graduation clearances are completed.

 

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I have to apply for graduation?

  A: Students who will be finishing degree requirements this Fall 2018 and intend to graduate must apply for graduation. The Application for graduation was due Monday, September 10, 2018 electronically via Testudo. 

Q: Do I have to attend either of the commencement ceremonies?

  A: Participation in the campus-wide and departmental ceremonies are encouraged, but not mandatory. If a student chooses not to participate in the commencement ceremonies, he/she will still receive their diploma.

Q: I am a double major. Which ceremony do I attend?

  A: Students can choose to attend both departmental ceremonies, only one ceremony, and neither.  Attendance is at the discretion of the student. 

Q: Will I receive my diploma at graduation?

  A: No, you will not receive your diploma at graduation. Your diploma will be sent to the diploma mailing address specified at the time the student’s application for graduation was submitted.  If a diploma mailing address was not specified, the diploma will be mailed to your permanent address.  Diplomas will be mailed several weeks after graduation.
