First Prize: Robert Luo—“A Suitcase to Save Him”

Robert Luo is a chemical engineering major, a member of the Rotaract Club, and a member of the Chi chapter of Omega Chi Epsilon (OXE) at UMD. With Rotaract, he has cooked meals for the families of pediatric patients staying at the Ronald McDonald house in Washington, D.C. With OXE, he has volunteered at A Wider Circle, which provides high quality furniture and household appliances to low-income families.

Second Prize: Priya Krishnan—"Feather and Yellow”

Priya Krishnan is pursuing a double degree in physiology/neurobiology and violin performance. She is a member of the Jimenez-Porter Writers' House and has been writing since her fingers learned to form letters, though she now uses pens and pencils instead of fat, sparkly crayons. She works as an Adventure Trip Leader and Challenge Course Facilitator at UMD and can usually be found outdoors, either climbing rocks, running on trails, or laying in a hammock with a good book. She is passionate about her involvement with nonprofit healthcare and cancer support organizations, including MEDLIFE and the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults.
