The Board of Visitors of the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences advises the dean and other College leadership on a broad range of topics, and also serves the student and alumni communities.

Steve Cooker is executive vice president of Monster Worldwide’s Monster Government Solutions. He is responsible for Monster Worldwide’s global government business and oversees Monster Government Solutions as well as the Public Sector and Education programs. Additionally, Mr. Cooker manages, the largest online military and veteran resource with 10 million members. He also is an active member of key technology organizations including TechAmerica and the Information Technology Industry Council. Prior to joining Monster Worldwide, Mr. Cooker was vice president and general manager of IBM/ISS, a network security company. He held executive positions at Nortel and AT&T, and also served as president of ATT/NCR’s government business. Mr. Cooker became chair of the BSOS Board of Visitors in 2017.

Clifford Bassett is the medical director and founder of the Allergy and Asthma Care of New York and is on the staff of NYU Langone Medical Center and NY Prebyterian Hospital in Manhattan. He is on the faculty of the New York University School of Medicine and of the Weill Cornell School of Medicine. Dr. Bassett also is a clinical assistant professor of medicine and otolaryngology at the State University of New York’s Health Sciences Center in Brooklyn. Dr. Bassett appears frequently on national television and in national print media to offer advice on allergy and asthma treatment. These appearances include The Today Show, CBS This Morning, Good Morning America, Dr. Oz and NBC Nightly News, among others.

Katherine Beardsley served BSOS for many years as the associate dean of undergraduate studies, and in 2013 was awarded the Dean’s Medal for her extraordinary service and commitment. Dr. Beardsley joined the College in 1986, serving as assistant and associate dean for undergraduate education, overseeing undergraduate programs and advising, mentoring scores of students and providing campus leadership on many initiatives, including the Dean’s Student Advisory Council. Dr. Beardsley and her husband, Robert, generously founded the Katherine and Robert Beardsley BSOS Scholarship for Outstanding Student Leaders, and are parents of a BSOS Graduate. The BSOS Student Leadership fund was established in Dr. Beardsley’s honor to support student leadership programming in the College.

Steven Begleiter is the founder, president and CEO of KBL Group International, a premier global supplier with offices in New York, Los Angeles and Hong Kong, as well as manufacturing facilities in China whose clients include L.L. Bean, Kohl’s and Dillard's. Mr. Begleiter’s family has been in the garment business for three generations.A former Terps baseball player, Mr. Begleiter is involved with numerous UMD and BSOS alumni engagement efforts, including serving as a member of the Maryland in Manhattan Awards Gala Executive Committee.He also has played a key role in establishing the BSOS Be the Solution Business Model Competition and the BSOS Solutions Lab as a pilot sponsor and a class mentor.

James Benjamin is the County Attorney for Baltimore County, Maryland. He was formerly a member of the law firm Pessin Katz Law, P.A. in Towson, Md. He has substantial bench and jury trial experience representing insurers and business entities in personal injury and premises liability matters. Mr. Benjamin was a law clerk for the Hon. Ellen M. Heller in the Circuit Court for Baltimore City, and also previously was an assistant city solicitor with the Baltimore City Law Department. He is the president of the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law’s Alumni Association Board, and will remain on the board as past president when his term ends.

Felecia Love Greer is a director and customer advocate with Pepco Holdings, Inc. (PHI), a regional energy holding company that provides utility service to approximately 2 million customers. In this role, she interacts directly with customers as well as governmental and regulatory officials on a variety of energy issues with the goal of ensuring customer satisfaction. Previously, Ms. Greer was a group manager in PHI’s Regulatory Affairs Division, where she directed managers responsible for regulatory relationships, case filings, compliance and reporting.

Before joining PHI, Ms. Greer worked for the Maryland Public Service Commission, where she held a number of executive and legal positions. In addition, she clerked for the Honorable Robert M. Bell, Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals of Maryland; the Office of the Attorney General and the Honorable Clifton J. Gordy, Circuit Court for Baltimore City. Ms. Greer also held various management positions with Shawmut Bank, National Bank of Washington and Maryland National Bank.

Ms. Greer currently serves on the Board of Trustees of The Calverton School; the Board of Directors of the Capital Area Food Bank and the Washington Performing Arts.

Paul Mandell is a founder and the CEO of Consero Group LLC, an international events company that provides industry leaders with opportunities to learn, network and collaborate. In this role, Mr. Mandell oversees the core functions of Consero, including program development, event planning, sales and operations. In 2003, Mr. Mandell received the BSOS Distinguished Alumnus Award. He serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of the University of Maryland College Park Foundation and has taught on an adjunct basis in BSOS’s Department of Government and Politics. An entrepreneur himself, he has played an instrumental role in establishing the BSOS Be the Solution Business Model Competition and the BSOS Solutions Lab course series. Mr. Mandell and his wife also generously founded BSOS’s Paul S. and Lisa M. Mandell Endowed Scholarship. He served as Chair of the BSOS Board of Visitors for six years, from 2011 to 2017.

Director/CEO for the Maryland Environmental Service

Roy McGrath is the Director/CEO and chairman for the board of directors for the Maryland Environmental Service. His life post-graduation has consisted of many different roles within both the Maryland state government and the federal government. He previously served as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Governor Larry Hogan, as a Senior Advisor to the Governor and as a Liaison to the Maryland Board of Public Works. Throughout his time working in state government, he has served many departments, agencies and Governor’s offices that focus on business and public safety. Before working with Governor Hogan, Mr. McGrath was Vice President of Business Development for the National Association of Chain Drug Stores and served in the federal government as a member of former Maryland Congressman Wayne T. Gilchrest’s staff. Mr. McGrath has been a Maryland resident his entire life.

Neil Moskowitz is retired from Credit Suisse First Boston as chief financial officer and head of the investment banking support functions for the investment banking division of Credit Suisse. Based in New York, he was a member of the Investment Banking Management Committee and the Management Council. Mr. Moskowitz received the BSOS Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2001. In 1996, Mr. Moskowitz generously established a series of awards in the Department of Economics, including the Martin Moskowitz Award Fund and the Neil Moskowitz Professorship. He also is a trustee of both the University of Maryland College Park and the University System of Maryland Foundation.

Singleton McAllister is a partner in the Washington Office of Husch Blackwell, in the technology, manufacturing and transportation practice. She has been practicing government relations and public policy law for more than 20 years. Ms. McAllister has held several senior positions with the U.S. House of Representatives, including senior counsel to the House Committee on the Budget. She also served on the African Development Foundation’s Advisory Board. President Clinton appointed her as general counsel of the United States Agency for International Development from 1996 to 2001. Ms. McAllister was also chair of the National Women’s Business Center and a former past president of Women in Government Relations, Inc. In 2012, she was named by On Being a Black Lawyer magazine as one of the Nation’s “Top Black Lawyers with Influence”. Ms. McAllister also serves her alma mater by representing BSOS on the UMD College Park Foundation Board of Trustees and by co-chairing BSOS’s Department of African American Studies’ 40th anniversary celebration.

Matthew S. Mendis is senior vice president and managing director for the International Development and Government Services Group of Nexant, Inc., an independent provider of intelligent grid software and clean energy solutions. Nexant is headquartered in San Francisco and operates from 32 corporate, representative and project offices located throughout the United States, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. Mr. Mendis has dedicated his career to reducing humanity’s carbon footprint, while helping poor people around the world to transform their lives. He has more than 35 years of experience in development, financing and implementation of alternative energy and energy efficiency projects.Mr. Mendis also serves as chairman and trustee for Global Village Energy Partnership International and is on the board of PanelClaw, Inc. He is the BSOS representative to the University of Maryland College Park Foundation Board of Trustees.


Gary Lydell Rozier

Gary Rozier is a Managing Director at Oak Street Real Estate Capital, LLC. Mr. Rozier is responsible for investor relations for institutional investors.

Prior to joining Oak Street Real Estate Capital, Mr. Rozier served as Senior Vice President at Ariel Investments for almost 14 years where he was responsible for institutional business development, client services, and consultant relations. Prior to joining Ariel, Mr. Rozier spent more than five years with Rydex Investments. At Rydex, he held multiple positions in shareholder services and financial advisor sales before being promoted to regional vice president where he oversaw product development and distribution across nine states in the Midwest Region.

Mr. Rozier is on the board of directors for City Colleges of Chicago Foundation, American Red Cross Chicago, a trustee for the Francis Xavier Warde School, and serves on the Investment Committee of Cristo Rey Jesuit High School. Additionally, he is a 2011 Leadership Greater Chicago fellow.

In addition to his service to the BSOS Board of Visitors, Mr. Rozier is a member of the college's Economics Leadership Council. 

Mr. Rozier earned a B.A. in economics from the University of Maryland, and was a captain of the rugby team.

Todd is admitted to practice law in the State of Maryland and the District of Columbia and is licensed as a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Maryland. Todd holds a J.D., a B.A. in Economics and a B.S. in Business.

Congressman Eric Swalwell represents California’s 15th Congressional District, which includes a large portion of the East Bay, where he grew up, attended public schools and served his community. In November 2012, he was elected to the United States House of Representatives. Congressman Swalwell serves on the Committee on Science, Space and Technology, and is the ranking member of its Subcommittee on Energy. He also serves on the Committee on Homeland Security. At UMD, he created the position of student liaison on the College Park City Council. After college, he graduated from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law.

As chair of Venable’s diversity committee for five years, he led the firm’s inclusion and diversity initiatives. He also is president of Thompson Communications, an educational consulting firm. Mr. Thompson has served as an adjunct professor and lecturer at UMD, as a trustee for the UMD College Park Foundation and as a co-chair of the Department of African American Studies’ 40th anniversary celebration. In 2001, he received UMD’s Outstanding Young Alumnus Award. In 2006, Mr. Thompson was named Alumnus of the Year by the Black Law Student Alumni organization with the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law.

Joseph Trocino is a lecturer in the Department of Geographical Sciences at the University of Maryland. His premier course is a short-term study abroad program, GEOG328B: Geography of the Southern Caribbean. Mr. Trocino is part of an extended Maryland family and is a big Terps fan, holding football season tickets for decades. He runs his own consulting business in Puerto Rico and South America, mostly dealing with international trade and shipping. He commutes from Athens, Ga., just to stay connected to the university. He is a supporter of the Department of Geographical Sciences and of the BSOS Office of the Dean, and is particularly interested in the student experience and study abroad opportunities. Mr. Trocino is a former planning and zoning director for Loudoun County, Va., is a former member and chair of Loudoun County's Economic Development Committee, and was twice elected to the Leesburg, Virginia Council.

Mr. Turner has played an instrumental role in establishing the BSOS Be the Solution Business Model Competition and the BSOS Solutions Lab.He also has served as a guest speaker for BSOS at a number of events and ceremonies. Mr. Turner and his wife, Tracye, have generously established the Mark and Tracye Turner Scholarship in Economics.


Erik F. Wang

Erik F. Wang is executive vice president for Waitex Group, based in New York. Mr. Wang focuses on identifying and managing real estate investments, development projects and joint venture opportunities worldwide, with a special focus on Asia. Mr. Wang currently manages a portfolio of assets with a total value of approximately $400 million. Previously, Mr. Wang served in both President George W. Bush’s administration as the deputy director for the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and on President George H.W. Bush’s administration at the Republican National Committee. In addition, Mr. Wang co-founded Bridge Investment Group, which invests and develops projects in the hospitality industry, and also is a principal in Cha International, which develops and operates Asian Fusion restaurant concepts.

Under her leadership, the company has enjoyed continuous growth and expansion of its client base while maintaining a focus on both customer satisfaction and employee welfare. Dr. Yang holds a Ph.D. in Biogeography and Remote Sensing from the Geography Department of University of Maryland in 1995.
