Statement from Dean Ball on Actions Related to SEVP Modifications
Dear BSOS Community,
Following the announcement by SEVP of modifications to temporary exemptions for non-immigrant students taking online classes due to the pandemic for the fall 2020 semester, and in the midst of the consternation this announcement has caused across our institution, I wanted to reach out to express my solidarity and provide some reassurance.
In BSOS and across campus, we are working with numerous entities—including the International Student and Scholar Services and the Office of the General Counsel—to identify how we can best protect, support and advise our international students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition, efforts are currently being made to block this action via legislation and in the courts.
BSOS welcomes, deeply values, respects, appreciates and cares for each and every member of our community, and we will advocate strongly for our international students. BSOS is deeply committed to diversity on multiple fronts, and our international students are a crucial and valued component of our scholarly excellence.
I will share more information as it becomes available.
Sincerely,
Greg
