The College of Behavioral & Social Sciences’ endowed chairs and their incumbents are each dedicated to the innovative pursuit of global peace and understanding. Through their research, programming and the inspiring and globally renowned speakers they bring to our campus, BSOS’s Peace Chairs work to be the solution to the world’s great challenges.
The goals of the Anwar Sadat Chair for Peace and Development, and of the professor who occupies it, are three-fold. First, the Chair works to further the dialogue for peace in the Middle East and throughout the world. Second, the Chair works to bridge the gap that often occurs between the academic and policy worlds, bringing the policy community of nearby Washington, D.C. in closer touch with the latest research findings. Third, the Chair strives to maintain an active and rigorous research agenda.
The Anwar Sadat Chair Fund advances the Chair's mission of furthering dialogue for peace in the Middle East and throughout the world. To fulfill this mission, the Sadat Chair engages in public discourse and actively conducts research and opinion polling. Your donation will support the Sadat Forum, the Sadat Lecture for Peace and other events, as well as research projects and polls conducted by the Sadat Chair.
The Bahá’í Chair for World Peace at the University of Maryland is an endowed academic program that advances interdisciplinary examination and discourse on global peace. While drawing certain initial insights from religion, the program aims to develop a sound scientific basis for knowledge and strategies that lead to the creation of a better world.
The Gibran Chair is one of the College of Behavioral & Social Sciences’ three endowed peace chairs. These chairs are each dedicated to the innovative pursuit of global peace and understanding. The George and Lisa Zakhem Kahlil Gibran Chair for Values and Peace is an endowed academic program that strengthens understanding between Eastern and Western cultures in general, and the Arab ethos and American values in particular.
TheKahlil Gibran Professorship for Peace and Value Operating Fund provides valuable, day-to-day support to the Gibran Chair.
