Politics and Prose Book Event: 'The Anger Rule: Racial Inequality and Constraints on Black Politicians'

Antoine Banks, chair of the UMD Department of Government and Politics, and Ismail White, Professor of Politics and Public Affairs at Princeton University, have a new book coming out: The Anger Rule: Racial Inequality and Constraints on Black Politicians.

In The Anger Rule, the authors argue that Black politicians are uniquely penalized for expressing anger, and that this constraint limits their ability to mobilize voters against existing racial hierarchies.

Celebrate the book's forthcoming publication at an event at the Politics and Prose bookstore in the Northwest D.C. location: 5015 Connecticut Avenue NW Washington, D.C. 20008. Congressman Glenn Ivey will be moderating the book discussion, and a reception will precede the event from 5-7 p.m. at The Den, the bookstore's cafe. The book talk will take place from 7-8 p.m.

RSVP here by November 15th at 5 p.m.

Antoine's first book Anger and Racial Politics: The Emotional Foundation of Racial Attitudes in America can be found here.

Ismail's first book Steadfast Democrats: How Social Forces Shape Black Political Behavior can be found here.
