UMD ATLAS Conference
ATLAS (Africa Through Language and Area Studies) is a new initiative to highlight and bring together Africa-related research, scholarship, courses and events happening across the University of Maryland campus. Made possible through a three-year Grand Challenges Team Project Grant, and led by P.I.s Miranda Abadir (ARHU-NFLC) and Matthew Thomann (BSOS-ANTH), ATLAS serves as a nexus for the study of African languages, history, contemporary issues, and research at the University of Maryland with the goal of increasing the understanding of the African continent and its growing global influence.
The first annual ATLAS Conference features a series of engaging panel presentations and discussions highlighting UMD faculty-led research related to Africa, the African diaspora, and African-American studies. Attendance is free, but ATLAS is asking all conference attendees to register, whether they are attending a portion of the event or for the full day.
The conference will be held at H.J. Patterson, rooms 2124 and 2130, and will also be available via Zoom for online attendees. Online attendees must register to receive a Zoom link.
