2016 College Awards
The BSOS community congratulates the winners of our 2016 College Awards. Our hard-working faculty and staff exemplify the College's motto to Be the Solution to the world's great challenges!
2016 Dean's Medal
Dr. Wendy Whittemore is the 2016 recipient of the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences Dean’s Medal—the highest honor bestowed upon a member of the BSOS community. Dean Gregory Ball presented the award to Dr. Whittemore at the BSOS Faculty/Staff Recognition Reception on Tuesday, April 12.
For the past 16 years, Dr. Whittemore has served as the Associate Director of the Environmental Science and Policy Program (ENSP)—a unique interdisciplinary undergraduate major on campus. During the course of her extraordinary 32-year career at the University of Maryland, Dr. Whittemore also served as academic coordinator for the men’s basketball team, Assistant Director in the Division of Letters & Sciences and Associate Director of the College Park Scholars—Environmental Studies Program. Dr. Whittemore plans to retire in the summer of 2016.
“We are so grateful for all that Wendy has done to develop and nurture the Environmental Science and Policy Program,” Dean Ball said. “We are especially thankful for all that she has done to create a truly collaborative and productive environment for students who wish to cross over the traditional academic boundaries in order to 'Be the Solution' to the world’s greatest environmental challenges. I can think of no worthier recipient of the BSOS Dean’s Medal.”
