Andrew Sweeting, ECON Professor and Department Chair, Testifies Before U.S. Senate Subcomittee

Andrew Sweeting, Professor and Chair of the University of Maryland's Department of Economics, gave testimony to the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Competition Policy, Antitrust, and Consumer Rights during a Nov. 29 hearing on the “Competitive Impact of the Proposed Kroger-Albertsons Transaction."

Sweeting, who has published a number of papers on antitrust in leading economics journals and served as Director of the Bureau of Economics at the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in 2020, discussed how learning from prior mergers and approaches used in other countries could help to guide the FTC when it is making an enforcement decision in this case.
