Ann Holmes Recognized for Excellence in Research Administration
The National Council of University Research Administrators honored Assistant Dean for Administration and Finance Ann Holmes with its 2021 Award for Outstanding Achievement in Research Administration. Holmes was recognized for her distinguished career and for her many contributions to the research community.
“I am honored to be recognized with this prestigious award. My work in research administration is one of the highlights of my career at the University of Maryland,” Holmes said. “The opportunity to share this knowledge on the campus and around the globe would not have been possible without the support of my colleagues and the leadership team I have had the opportunity to work with. I am especially grateful to my long-time presentation partner and friend, Associate Vice President for Research Administration Denise Clark, who spearheaded my nomination.”
In her service to BSOS, Holmes’s responsibilities include oversight of activities for budget preparation and control; contracts and grants; compliance with university, state and federal regulations; ethical stewardship of funds; and planning to assure responsible fiscal management.
Across 10 departments and many centers and interdisciplinary efforts, BSOS faculty and students bring in more than $50 million in research funding each year.
“I am thrilled that Assistant Dean Ann Holmes will receive this award. I can think of no one more deserving. Ann’s expertise—and generosity in sharing it—is well-known in BSOS, across campus and in the discipline at large,” said Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies Jean McGloin. “She is an essential part of our college’s research success, and I am proud to be her colleague.”
