Big Success for BSOS on Giving Day 2016!
The College of Behavioral and Social Sciences is so thankful for the tremendous support received from alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff and friends on Giving Day, March 3rd. BSOS secured the most gifts of any campus unit during this 27-hour fundraising challenge and brought home nearly $8,000 in matching funds by winning numerous hourly giving competitions.
In all, the college received 261 gifts and a total of $28,360 during this single largest day of giving in the University of Maryland’s history. Simply amazing!
These generous gifts will allow us to support BSOS students, faculty and programs in ways that wouldn’t otherwise be possible: paying for an undergraduate’s Metro fare to travel to and from her unpaid internship in downtown DC; funding state-of-the-art laboratory equipment for the study of brain and behavior in our Neuroscience and Cognitive Science program; purchasing materials for the dozens of community service projects completed each year by students in the CIVICUS living and learning program; off-setting travel expenses for students and faculty doing fieldwork in Africa, South America, Iceland and other locations around the world; and so much more.
The University of Maryland as a whole raised more than $370,000 through nearly 3,000 gifts on Giving Day, truly unlocking a world of possibilities not only for current students and programs, but for the next generation of problem solvers working to Be the Solution to our world’s greatest challenges. We are so proud to be part of such a generous community of Terps.
Thank you to all who donated to BSOS on Giving Day and throughout the year. We look forward to sharing more stories in the near future about the impact of your gifts.
