BSOS Celebrates Spring Commencement 2017
The College of Behavioral and Social Sciences congratulates the Class of 2017, as well as our graduates’ family members, friends and supporters as we celebrate spring commencement.
On Saturday, May 20, special graduation ceremonies were held for several BSOS departments.
The Department of Psychology celebrated in Reckord Armory, with an address by CEO of Together for Girls Daniela Ligiero, PSYC Ph.D. ’03.
The Departments of African American Studies and of Sociology, as well as the Joint Program in Survey Methodology and the Environmental Science and Policy Program, held a joint ceremony in Dekelboum Concert Hall in the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center.
The Department of Hearing and Speech Sciences celebrated in Memorial Chapel with special guest Andy Shallal, founder of the Busboys & Poets restaurant and performance space franchise.
The Departments of Anthropology and of Geographical Sciences held a joint celebration in Memorial Chapel (pictured): Watch the Video.
The celebration continued Sunday, May 21 with the campus-wide commencement ceremony in the Xfinity Center. BSOS student Shuping Yang, PSYC ’17, served as the student speaker, who underscored the importance of free speech. Graduates also heard remarks by alumnus Mark Ciardi, ’83, founder and CEO of Apex Entertainment.
BSOS graduates were presented for the conferring of degrees by Associate Dean Wayne McIntosh, who invited them to stand and be recognized. Watch the Video of the all-campus celebration.
Ceremonies concluded on Monday, May 22 with the Department of Government and Politics ceremony, the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice ceremony, and the Department of Economics ceremony, each held in Reckord Armory. The Hon. Cheri Bustos, GVPT '83, delivered an address to the GVPT graduates. She represents the 17th congressional district in Illinois. Gary Rozier, ECON '99, senior vice president of institutional marketing for Ariel Investments, spoke to the ECON graduates.
