BSOS Co-Hosts Conversation with Maryland's First Lady Dawn Moore
Maryland's First Lady Dawn Moore returned to the her alma mater, the University of Maryland, on Tuesday, Sept. 24 for a conversation with Deans Susan Rivera of the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences, Stephanie Shonekan of the College of Arts and Humanities, and Kimberly Griffin of the College of Education.
Their conversation with First Lady Moore, who graduated in 1997 with a degree in government and politics and a certificate in women's studies, focused on issues of importance to all four of the esteemed speakers.
"One of the many reasons that my fellow deans and I invited First Lady Moore to join us today is that she is passionate about children’s mental health, women’s economic empowerment, supporting Maryland's military families, and championing the arts—all pillars that are important to the work going on in each of our colleges," Dean Rivera said during her opening remarks.
First Lady Dawn Moore reflected on her time at UMD, offered advice to current UMD students, and spoke about the importance of her "passion pillars," plus the progress she and Gov. Wes Moore have made on those issues.
