BSOS Congratulates Gilman Scholarship Recipients
The BSOS community congratulates our students, and all students across the university who recently received prestigious Gilman scholarships.
Gilman scholarships are awarded each year by the U.S. Department of State. The awards, up to $5,000, are given to U.S. students who are eligible for Pell Grants for their pursuits abroad. Students may spend up to a year studying languages, working in internships or studying as part of an exchange program. Named for a former U.S. congressman, the Gilman scholarship program is intended to better prepare American students to work in a global economy and to increase opportunities for first-generation college students.
This year, UMD recently was ranked No. 4 among all institutions nationwide in the number of students to receive Gilman scholarships.
