BSOS Graduates Awarded the All-S.T.A.R. Fellowship
The College of Behavioral and Social Sciences is proud to announce that graduate students Emilia Guevara and Theodore Wilson have been selected to receive the Graduate School’s fourth All-S.T.A.R. Fellowship.
Through the All-S.T.A.R. (Scholarship, Teaching, Administration and Research) Fellowship, the University of Maryland’s Graduate School recognizes exceptional graduate students who have either made substantial contributions to their college or school or have gone above and beyond in their work as teaching, research or administrative assistants.
These students, while juggling research, work and school, manage to yet boast impressive academic scores- inspiring the Graduate School to use its All-S.T.A.R. Fellowship to recognize, honor and support these graduates’ present and future endeavors.
Emilia Guevara, an anthropology doctoral student, is President of the Practicing Anthropologist Student Association as well as a member of the Student Committee for the Society for Applied Anthropology and a member of the Anthropology Department’s Diversity Committee. Guevara’s research, which has been published in the Journal of Minority and Immigrant Health and presented at numerous international conferences, concerns medical anthropology-specifically as it relates to ethnic, racial and gendered inequalities in the Latino immigrant community.
Theodore Wilson, a doctoral student in criminology and criminal justice, has focused his dissertation research on the role of risk perceptions and risk preferences in an offenders’ decision to commit a crime. Wilson has published his research in the field’s flagship journal, Criminology, as well as multiple other top-tier publications. Wilson has also presented his research at the American Society of Criminology’s meetings. In addition to conducting his research, Wilson serves as the current chair of the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences Dean’s Graduate Student Advisory Council, a position from which he launched the Graduate Resources for the Outside World (GROW) initiative- hosting alumni panelists in exchange for their perspective on issues related to transitioning from graduate school to the workforce.
The College of Behavioral and Social Sciences joins the Graduate School in recognizing and congratulating these outstanding students and looks forward to seeing the many accomplishments yet to come!
