BSOS Workshop Promotes Faculty Learning Python

While students are on winter break in January 2017, a group of faculty from the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences headed to class.

The College hosted a Python workshop for faculty interested in incorporating the useful computer language into their teaching and research. This training was part of Dean Gregory Ball's ongoing initiative to ensure that all BSOS students and faculty are exposed to and comfortable with the tools of data sciences.

“Faculty members are always looking for new knowledge and tools to assist them in advancing their research and improving their teaching,” said BSOS Associate Dean Katherine Russell. “Over the past few years, BSOS has been offering a series of workshops for faculty who are interested in building their personal competencies in the tools of data science, as this is one of the College's priority areas for both research and education.

BSOS is grateful to Dr. Ruibo Han from Geographical Sciences, who taught the workshop, as well as the faculty members from across the College who participated.
