Dean Ball Comments on Appointment of New UMD President
On Wednesday, February 12, the University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents appointed Darryll J. Pines, PhD, as the 34th president of the University of Maryland, College Park (UMD). Pines has spent 25 years on the College Park campus and is dean of the university’s A. James Clark School of Engineering. His appointment is effective July 1.
Gregory Ball, Dean of the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences, served as vice chair on the presidential search committee and said, “Dean Darryll Pines is a brilliant choice to be the next president of the University of Maryland, College Park. He is a proven leader with experience in all facets of what is required to lead this university. He is respected by the entire campus community and I am confident he can build upon our current high level of excellence and lead the entire University community forward to new heights of achievement.”
