Dean Ball Welcomes UMD Community to Ferguson Town Hall
Dear Members of the University of Maryland Community,
[[{"type":"media","view_mode":"media_large","fid":"1398","attributes":{"alt":"","class":"media-image","height":"480","style":"width: 175px; height: 263px; float: left; margin: 5px;","width":"320"}}]]As you all know, the decision last week by the Missouri grand jury not to bring an indictment in the case of the shooting of Michael Brown has generated protests on our campus and across the nation. This situation in Ferguson, Missouri raises a number of profound questions about the state of our nation and how we deal with the issues of race and class as they relate to the administration of justice.
I would like to remind you that these timely topics are among the fundamental social problems that we in the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences (BSOS) address in our research and coursework. I welcome you to attend an event that has been organized on December 3 to facilitate discussion on the Brown case.
I think this is a great example of how we in BSOS engage the University and College Park communities to work toward our goal to “Be the Solution” for some of the most difficult problems facing our country and our world.
Dean Greg Ball
Ferguson Town Hall
Come be a part of social change

The tragic shooting of Michael Brown and the subsequent decision by a grand jury to not indict Ferguson, Mo., police officer Darren Wilson has many wondering where we go from here. The African American Studies Department (AASD) invites the University community to speak out and be heard on these important issues, and to be a part of a plan for social change.
Join us from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 3 in the Atrium of the Adele H. Stamp Student Union to take part in this critical dialogue. Discussion will be moderated by Dr. Odis Johnson, Jr., interim chair of AASD.
Join AASD & our Colleagues:
MLAW Programs, Critical Race Initiative, UMD Social Justice Coalition, UMD Police Department and the Baha’i Chair for World Peace.
