Earn a Capital CoLab Digital Tech Credential (Badge)

Want to demonstrate your social data science knowledge to prospective employers in the DMV?
Want to be eligible for a Greater Washington Partnership Capital CoLab internship or scholarship?
Sign up for the Capital CoLab Digital Tech Credential (badge) through University of Maryland using the directions below.
Learn more about the required courses & steps at badging.umd.edu.

Follow these steps to sign up:

Log into ELMS.umd.edu
Click on Portfolium in the left (red) menu in ELMS and activate your Portfolium account using your Terpmail address.
Once signed into Porfolium, email bsosugdean@umd.edu to request access to the pathway for GVPT or pathway for GEOG.
Complete the courses listed and fill out the brief written reflection.

EdX Module Option

Students who do not complete INST366 may complete two free online EdX Edge modules instead. If needed, Request Access to the Data Ethics EdX Edge Module or Data Security EdX Edge Module *
Confirm Completion of the Data Ethics or Data Security EdX Edge Module once you are done.

*Once you sign-up, you will see that most of the requirements are satisfied by completing specific courses. However, there is the additional requirement of either completing INST366 or completing two EdX Edge modules online (one in data ethics and one in data security). If you choose the EdX Edge modules, you can sign-up to request to enroll in the free online modules here:

Timeline:

You can work on the badge anytime and there is no deadline. However, we encourage you to complete the badge as soon as practical so that you will have this credential on your Resume & LinkedIn profile when you apply for your next internship or job.

How do I get my badge?

Once you complete the requirements, email bsos-ugdean@umd.edu and we will review your record and award your badge!
