Five BSOS Students Named Critical Language Scholars
Five College of Behavioral and Social Sciences students will pack their bags and head to various corners of the world this summer via their recent acceptance into the U.S. Department of State’s Critical Language Scholarship Program.
Of the 560 students across the country that were selected, Tabatha Anderson, Samuel Besse, Jasper Surrett, Kyle Vaughan and Diana Partridge made the cut.
Tabatha Anderson- Junior Government and Politics and Chinese double major
Tabatha Anderson is a member of the College Park Scholars International Studies Program and Language House. Anderson will be taking part in the Global Fellows program in 2017 and will study Chinese in Dalian, China.
Samuel Besse- Junior Geographical Sciences and Economics double major
Samuel Besse is a member of the University Honors Program of the Honors College. Besse will go on to study Urdu in Lucknow, India.
Jasper Surrett- Government and Politics and Persian double major
Surrett is a member of the College Park Scholars International Studies Program and will also take part in the Global Fellows program in 2017. Surrett will study Persian in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
Kyle Vaughan- 2015 Government and Politics Alum with a minor in Chinese
Kyle Vaughan was a member of the College Park Scholars Public Leadership Program and Language House during his time at UMD. Vaughn will be studying Chinese in Suzhou, China.
Diana Partridge- Doctoral Student in the Department of Government and Politics
Diana Partridge will be studying Arabic in Meknes, Morocco.
