GEOG Researchers Headline Climate Action Forum
On May 4, GEOG Professors Matt Hansen and George Hurtt were panelists for a session on "Carbon Monitoring and Modeling in the Land Use Sector" at the University of Maryland Climate Action 2016 Forum. This session provided an overview of methods to track forest area and carbon stock change, tools for implementation and models for estimating forest carbon sequestration potential.
Drs. Klaus Hubacek, Giovanni Baiocchi, Kuishuang Feng, Laixiang Sun and Julie Silva presented "Climate Change, Poverty and Vulnerability." This session explored the intersection of climate change and poverty at various scales, from local to global, and focused specifically on the vulnerabilities of poor and marginal communities.
UMD is a co-sponsor of the 2016 Climate Action Summit, held at The Mayflower Hotel in Washington D.C., May 5-6.
