Honors College Presents Awards to Dr. Telhami, BSOS Students
The College of Behavioral and Social Sciences (BSOS) congratulates its students and faculty members affiliated with the Honors College on their outstanding achievements. The Honors College is home to Maryland’s highly acclaimed living-learning programs for students with exceptional academic talents and also features small classes taught by exceptional faculty who encourage discussion and foster innovative thinking. Each year, approximately 1,000 undergraduates are welcomed into this highly selective program—many of whom are BSOS students.
[[{"type":"media","view_mode":"media_large","fid":"1375","attributes":{"alt":"","class":"media-image","height":"480","style":"width: 150px; height: 203px; margin: 5px; float: left;","width":"354"}}]]On Nov. 5, the Honors College recognized Dr. Shibley Telhami, the Anwar Sadat Professor for Peace and Development, with its Outstanding Honors Faculty Award. Dr. Telhami served as the faculty speaker at a campus-wide awards ceremony paying tribute to all Honors College faculty and student awardees. The ceremony was held in the Memorial Chapel and was attended by University and Honors College officials, as well as the visiting Honors College outside review committee.
As the Sadat Chair, Dr. Telhami works to further the dialogue for peace in the Middle East and throughout the world. He also is instrumental in bridging the gap that often occurs between the academic and policy worlds, bringing the policy community of nearby Washington, D.C. in closer touch with the latest research findings. He also strives to maintain an active and rigorous research agenda, and frequently comments in the media and via global platforms on timely matters of conflict, policy and possible pathways toward peace. Three Honors College students affiliated with the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences also were recognized at the ceremony with Outstanding Honors Student Awards: Lilybelle Davis (ECON), Design | Cultures + Creativity; Ashmi Sheth (GVPT), Entrepreneurship and Innovation; and Mackenzie Burnett (GVPT/IVSP), University Honors.
Honors College Citations were also presented during the ceremony to students in recognition of their hard work and accomplishments.
