PSYC Professors Receive Prestigious Awards

The College of Behavioral and Social Sciences and the Department of Psychology congratulate two members of our faculty who were recently honored with prestigious awards.

Assistant Clinical Professor Juliet Aiken (pictured at left) won the Society of Industrial-Organizational Psychology Early Career Award in Practice. SIOP is an international organization of more than 10,000 members in both academia and industry.

The Early Career Award is given out annually to at most two individuals. Professor Aiken is the first person in an academic position to receive this award. She received this award for her work on diversity and inclusion in the context of the Industrial/Organizational Psychology Masters in Professional Studies program that she developed and runs.

Clinical Associate Professor Colleen Byrne (pictured at right) is the 2020 Recipient of The Jean Spruill Achievement Award.

This is the highest award given by The Association for Psychology Training Clinics (APTC)—an international organization—to honor a member who demonstrates longstanding and active involvement in APTC, commitment to excellence in training, and dedication to innovative and best practices in doctoral training clinics. Professor Byrne has served as Director of UMD’s Psychology Clinic since 2001, and has been an active APTC member since 2002.
