Tragic Passing of a BSOS Student
The BSOS community grieves the loss of Amari Seldon, a sophomore psychology major, who passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2023. We offer our most sincere condolences to Amari’s family, his friends, his professors, his fellow students, and to all whose lives were touched by him, on campus and beyond.
We are heartbroken over the loss of Amari. His professors have shared that Amari was an outstanding student who was also generous in helping his classmates learn. He was described as gentle, kind, and someone who always participated. He was passionate about chess and loved research. He was engaged in a lot of activities and organizations, and had many different communities of friends on and off campus who are personally grieving his loss.
We still have unanswered questions, and that is also hard; the investigation into Amari's death is still ongoing. The BSOS community shares some resources that are available to all members of the UMD community.
