UMD Social Justice Day

The University of Maryland is holding its first campus-wide Social Justice Day on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 in the Adele H. Stamp Student Union. The day-long event will center around two interactive sessions in which participants from all parts of campus will be able to demonstrate the many ways—through research, teaching, and community involvement—that the University of Maryland is committed to “Growing Social Justice for the Public Good.”

The keynote speaker will be Richard Reeves, Senior Fellow, Economic Studies and Co-Director, Center on Children and Families at the Brookings Institution.

The day is being organized around five social justice themes:
1. Immigration in the 21st Century
2. Economic Development and Inequality
3. Environmental Justice
4. Creating Healthy Communities
5. Media and Inequality

The day's events will be followed by a Voices of Social Change talk by Naomi Klein, an acclaimed journalist, filmmaker, and activist, best known for her criticism of capitalism, globalization, and war, as well as a more recent shift to promoting environmentalism.
