Updates: Temperatures and Projects in BSOS Buildings
The College of Behavioral and Social Sciences continues to communicate with Campus Facilities Management about heating and air conditioning challenges in buildings with BSOS offices, labs, and classrooms.
Update:
Facilities Management Department of Operations, Maintenance & Utilities, HVAC Shop, will be performing an HVAC outage at Tydings Hall on Monday, November 2, 2020, from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
This outage will affect the building’s heat but is necessary in order to replace a heating control valve. Work will take place in the basement in Mechanical Room 0118.
- Small indoor thermometers are available on loan in the BSOS Facilities Office if you would like to track temperatures in your office or space. Please report temperatures of under 68 degrees Fahrenheit or above 78 degrees Fahrenheit to your supervisor.

-
A limited quantity of space heaters are available on loan during the maintenance period. Request a space heater by contacting the BSOS Facilities Office at 301-405-8748, or email bsosfacilities@umd.edu. As available (first come, first served), space heaters may be signed out and picked up from 0127 Tydings Hall.
Possible Future Unplanned and Planned Outages:
Additional Information for BSOS Supervisors and Employees in Affected Buildings
-
Supervisors, please be as accommodating as possible during the heat outage.
-
Supervisors and employees may set up short-term remote work arrangements if work can be done remotely and the office is cold.
-
Office phones can be forwarded to personal cell phones, as needed.
-
Not all offices and spaces in affected buildings are the same temperature. Internal offices and offices on higher floors tend to be warmer. Move in or up if possible.
-
You may bring a space heater from home for your office. Please be extra careful with space heaters; absolutely no extension cords allowed!
