Judy Heumann is an internationally recognized leader in the disability rights community and a lifelong civil rights advocate, who helped pave the way for the passage of the ADA. Judy served as Special Advisor on Disability Rights for the U.S. State Department under the Obama administration, and she was one of the main organizers of the 1977 HEW 504 sit-in, where nearly 150 disability rights activists demanded that President Carter implement Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
