Scholars Gather to Discuss '100 Years of Communist Experiments'

A diverse and experienced group of scholars will explore the global impacts and future lessons of what The New York Times has called the "Red Century." The convener of the conference, 100 Years of Communist Experiments, is Professor Vladimir Tismaneanu of the Department of Government and Politics.

"Marking the 100th anniversary of the Bolshevik coup and the start of World Communism, this conference is a timely investigation of what Hannah Arendt called the ongoing era of 'ideological storms,'" Tismaneanu said.

This gathering will be the start of a new period of intense collaboration among a global network of scholars of Communism, connected through the University of Maryland's Center for the Study of Post-Communist Societies.

For more information on the Center's mission and projects, and to register for the upcoming conference, please contact Jordan Luber at luber.jordan@gmail.com.
