PROGRESS Scholar Presents at UMD’s GIS Day

During UMD’s GIS Day (November 19, 2025), Dr. Ruibo Han presented on a project that leverages GeoAI to advance gun violence prevention and reduction. As a PROGRESS Scholar and the Director of the Geospatial Intelligence (GEOINT) Programs at the Center for Geospatial Information Science, Ruibo Han’s research focus spans GeoAI, big data analytics, web and mobile GIS, and urban dynamics.
This project created a new innovative web tool to support community violence intervention groups. Through data integration visualization and modeling, the project identifies spatial and temporal patterns of gun violence highlights key socioeconomic and community factors and develops prescriptive models for risk assessment and intervention. This project is a part of the Geo AI Innovation Hub at PROGRESS, using this groundbreaking technology to create practical, community-based solutions to prevent gun violence.
