Prevent Gun Violence: Research, Empowerment, Strategies & Solutions (PROGRESS)
PROGRESS Scholar Presents at UMD’s GIS Day
November 19th, 2025
During UMD’s GIS Day, Dr. Ruibo Han presented on a project that leverages GeoAI to advance gun violence prevention and reduction. The project created a new innovative web tool to support community violence intervention (CVI) groups. Through data integration, visualization and modeling, the project identifies spatial and temporal patterns of gun violence, highlights key socioeconomic and community factors, and develops prescriptive models for risk assessment and intervention.
This project is a part of the PROGRESS Innovation Hub in GeoAI, which uses groundbreaking technology to create practical, community-based solutions to prevent gun violence.
As the Director of the Geospatial Intelligence (GEOINT) Programs at the Center for Geospatial Information Science and a PROGRESS Scholar, Dr. Han’s research focus spans GeoAI, big data analytics, web and mobile GIS, and urban dynamics.
