Inaugural Event of the PROGRESS Distinguished Speaker Series

PROGRESS inaugurated its Distinguished Speaker Series on March 6, 2024, with a webinar featuring presentations by two outstanding University of Maryland scholar-practitioners: Professor Rabiatu Barrie of the Department of Family Science (School of Public Health) and Professor Brooklynn Hitchens of the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice (College of Behavioral and Social Sciences).
Dr. Barrie presented on "Gendered Racialized Trauma: Masculinity as a Risk Factor for African American Men."
Dr. Hitchen's presentation was entitled: "'We Clean it Up': Black Female Homicide Survivorship In Context."
PROGRESS Co-Director Woodie Kessel introduced the event and Co-Director Joseph Richarson served as webinar moderator; UMD Vice President for Research Gregory Ball and College of Behavioral and Social Sciences (BSOS) Dean Susan Rivera both delivered introductory remarks.
