NICJR Briefing on Prince George's County Landscape Analysis

PROGRESS shared updates on the initiative's work with Prince George's County (PGC) partners at a community forum convened by David Muhammad of the National Institute for Criminal Justice Reform (NICJR). Following a presentation by Mr. Muhammad, PROGRESS Co-Directors Jo Richardson and Woodie Kessel presented on PROGRESS's current partnerships across the county and the team's commitment to helping build a stronger community violence intervention (CVI) ecosystem locally.

Mr. Muhammad shared findings from the NICJR PGC Violence Reduction Landscape Analysis and Recommendations, along with the PGC County Gun Violence Data Assessment. NICJR's recommendations include establishing a County Office of Violence Prevention; conducting a gun violence problem analysis; funding, coordinating, and overseeing a countywide CVI strategy to engage those at highest risk; and implementing a focused enforcement approach through the Prince George's County Police Department.

Although Prince George's County has experienced a decline in gun violence, the NICJR findings underscore that continued, coordinated work is still needed to sustain and build on that progress.
