PROGRESS Co-Director Receives the 2024 Frances J. Bonner, MD Diversity Award

Dr. Joseph B. Richardson, PROGRESS Co-Director, has been honored as the awardee of the 2024 Frances J. Bonner, MD Diversity Award. This prestigious award recognizes Dr. Richardson’s contributions to mental health, diversity, and social justice, particularly in the context of young Black men affected by firearm violence. Dr. Richardson’s work has focused on empowering survivors of firearm violence through trauma-informed care, community engagement, and innovative tools like digital storytelling. 

The Frances J. Bonner, MD Diversity Award, established by the MGH Department of Psychiatry and the Center for Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging (CDIB), honors individuals who have made significant contributions to mental health and social justice for underserved populations. Awardees are typically from underrepresented cultural, racial, or ethnic backgrounds or have overcome socio-cultural adversity in their work.
