PROGRESS Challenge Grants 2026

The Prevent Gun Violence: Research, Empowerment, Strategies and Solutions (PROGRESS) initiative at the University of Maryland invites UMD faculty to apply for the 2026 PROGRESS Challenge Grants, which support evidence-based scholarship to prevent gun violence and save lives.

The PROGRESS Challenge Grants are federally funded by the U.S. Department of Justice and must comply with the DOJ Grants Financial Guide. They are limited to tenured/tenure track and PTK faculty at the University of Maryland, College Park, and will support time and effort to:

- investigate/test hypotheses and/or synthesize state-of-the-art intervention/policy;

- analyze key primary/secondary prevention, law enforcement, judiciary, health, economic, policy data; and,

- synthesize literature related to key gun violence prevention strategies.
