Prevent Gun Violence: Research, Empowerment, Strategies & Solutions (PROGRESS)

Congress Supports PROGRESS Violence Reduction Initiatives

October 1, 2026

The PROGRESS Violence Reduction Research Initiative (VRRI) has received a federal award appropriated by the U.S. Congress and administered through the Department of Justice's Byrne Discretionary Grants program. With this funding, PROGRESS will implement effective strategies and solutions alongside community partners in Prince George’s County to reduce and prevent gun violence.

PROGRESS Co-Directors Jo Richardson and Woodie Kessel express special thanks to members of Maryland's congressional delegation—especially Senators Chris Van Hollen and Angela Alsobrooks and Congressman Glenn Ivey—for their support of this important project and gun violence reduction efforts in Maryland and nationally.
