Alliance of Concerned Men (ACM) Visit to UMD
December 20, 2024
On December 20, 2024, the Alliance of Concerned Men (ACM) and the University of Maryland’s PROGRESS team hosted a collaborative dialogue in Washington, DC, focused on enhancing community violence intervention (CVI) efforts.
The Alliance of Concerned Men (ACM) is a community-based organization dedicated to reducing violence, mentoring at-risk youth, and fostering peace through nonviolent conflict resolution and transformative leadership. ACM’s Cure the Streets program shared insights into its violence interruption model, which emphasizes trust-building, youth engagement, and data-driven strategies to reduce gun violence. The PROGRESS team showcased an innovative GeoAI platform that integrates data from crime reports, hospital records, and social media to help identify violence trends and inform interventions.
The event highlighted critical challenges such as resource gaps and data accuracy, while reaffirming the importance of collaboration, training, and tailored solutions to create safer neighborhoods.
