Prevent Gun Violence: Research, Empowerment, Strategies & Solutions (PROGRESS)
Site Visit to Alliance of Concerned Men (ACM) & Cure the Streets
November 18th, 2024
The PROGRESS team and affiliated researchers from the University of Maryland (UMD) visited the Alliance of Concerned Men (ACM) to learn more about their innovative violence intervention strategies. During the visit, the UMD team toured and participated in talks at two locations in DC: ACM headquarters and the Cure the Streets office in Ward 7.
ACM, one of the oldest and most respected organizations in the field of Community Violence Intervention (CVI) in the U.S., uses a public health, evidence-based approach to prevent violence and promote peace in high-risk neighborhoods. The Cure the Streets program deploys Violence Interrupters and Outreach Workers to mediate conflicts, prevent retaliatory violence, develop individualized risk reduction plans, and more.
PROGRESS and UMD researchers will advance collaboration with ACM and Ward 7 Cure the Streets staff to research and implement effective strategies for community-based violence prevention.
